Paris Olympics 2024 Day 3 Highlights: Manu, Sarabjot qualifies for nail-biting final; Indian hockey team draws with Argentina
India archery team loses to Turkiye. Trap shooter Prithviraj Tondaiman sits last with two rounds remaining.
CHENNAI: Day 3 of the Paris Olympics 2024 started off in a good way for the Indian contingents with Olympics medal winner Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh winning the qualifying round of the mixed 10m air pistol event on Monday. They will take part in the bronze medal match tomorrow.
In the women's 10m air rifle event, Ramita Jindal finished seventh in the finals which ended her hopes for a medal in the event. On the other hand, Arjun Babuta, who was expected to add to India's medal tally, missed out on winning a bronze by finishing fourth in the men's 10m air rifle competition.
Coming to badminton, the doubles match of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty which was scheduled to take place today got cancelled as their opponents withdrew from the competition due to Mark Lamsfuss (one of their opponents) sustaining an injury. They will now face the Indonesian pair of Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto on Tuesday. It is a must-win game for the Indian duo as it is their final game before the quarterfinals.
In the men's singles event, Lakshya Sen won two straight sets against his Belgium opponent Julien Carraggi (21-19, 21-14).
In women's doubles, India's Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto lost to Japan's Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida 2-0.
Shifting to field events, the Indian hockey team once again gave an edge of the seat thriller for their fans as they drew the match against Argentina. After the end of three quarters, India were trailing 0-1. But the penalty corner which came in the final two minutes of the game saw Harmanpreet Singh strike into the right corner of the goal post to equalise the game. They will now face Ireland in their third Pool B match tomorrow.
Meanwhile, India archery team of Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav lost to Turkiye in the quarter-finals of the Paris 2024 Olympics at Les Invalides.
Prithviraj Tondaiman sits at the bottom in the qualification for men's trap shooting event. The remaining two rounds of qualification are scheduled for tomorrow. Top six shooters will qualify for next round.

The first stage features two series of 5 shots each (Total of 10 shots). The performance in this stage will determine the standings and will build up to a more intense second stage.
The second stage consists of a total of 14 shots, each fired on command. Every two shots the lowest-ranked shooter is eliminated from the competition making for an intense round of competition.
