Chennai City had drawn its previous two contests against debutant TRAU FC and Aizawl FC. On Friday, overseas recruits Adolfo ‘Fito’ Miranda and Katsumi Yusa netted in the 48th and 60th minutes to hand the defending champion all three points.

Having found the back of the net against Aizawl, Japanese midfielder Katsumi got on the scoresheet for a second game in a row.

But, the side’s Spanish goalkeeper Nauzet Santana Garcia was handed the Man of the Match award for protecting his net well.

After the victory, CCFC is placed third in the standings with 19 points from 14 fixtures but has played more fixtures than most of its rivals. Arrows remains at the bottom with eight points from the same number of matches as its opponent. Chennai City will next take on table-topper Mohun Bagan in Kolkata on March 5.
