Inter stays second with win over Napoli

Danilo D’Ambrosio put Inter ahead in the first half while Lautaro Martinez sealed the victory after coming off the bench on Tuesday. The away side had most of the possession, but it was Inter which broke the deadlock in the 10th minute. Antonio Candreva’s cross found Cristiano Biraghi, who pulled back for D’Ambrosio to finish with a low strike.

Inter was under siege later, but goalkeeper Samir Handanovic performed well to keep a clean sheet. The host doubled its lead in the 74th minute when Lautaro surged forward and released a missile that flew into the far corner.

Elsewhere, Atalanta continued its unbeaten run with a comeback 2-1 win over Parma.

Ruslan Malinovskyi’s free-kick wiped put Dejan Kulusevski’s opener, and Alejandro Gomez scored the winner in the 84th minute. Inter is second on the Serie A table with 79 points, one ahead of third-placed Atalanta. The two teams meet in the final round on Saturday, with the runner-up spot (to winner Juventus) in the league up for grabs.

UEFA, European football’s governing body, said it is confident of holding Manchester City’s Champions League (CL) tie with Real Madrid next week amid the coronavirus scare.

The second leg of the CL Roundof16 clash between City and Real is slated to be played at the Etihad Stadium on August 8. Spanish giant Real Madrid on Tuesday confirmed that striker Mariano Diaz tested positive for coronavirus, following the latest round of tests carried out by the club on Monday.

The recently-crowned La Liga winner further informed that the 26-year-old has put himself under self-isolation at home, but stated that he remains in ‘perfect health’.

“UEFA is in contact with the club and monitoring both the situation and decisions of the relevant Spanish authorities,” UEFA said in a statement to British media.

“We are confident that this case will not affect the regular staging of the match in question.” City won the first leg 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu before the competition was suspended in March due to the health crisis.
