Cagliari stuns Juventus, AC Milan wins

As Juventus clinched its ninth successive league title last Sunday, manager Maurizio Sarri made several changes to his starting line-up on Wednesday. The title-winner dominated with 34 attempts, but it was Cagliari which found the net twice.

Starlet Luca Gagliano took centre stage with one goal and one assist, helping his side earn three points. Elsewhere, AC Milan was up by three goals before the hour mark, courtesy of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s brace and Hakan Calhanoglu’s volley.

Gianluigi Donnarumma performed well to deny a penalty goal, but could do nothing to stop Kristoffer Askildsen’s screamer. Rafael Leao sealed the match for AC Milan in the dying minutes with a curler from the edge of the box.

Roma secured fifth place on the table as it edged past Torino 3-2. Edin Dzeko, Chris Smalling and Amadou Diawara were on target for the winning side. Ciro Immobile netted his 35th goal of the league season to help Lazio defeat Brescia 2-0. The centre forward is just one goal away from equalling the all-time record goals in single season set by Gonzalo Higuain (in 2015-16).

Relegation-threatened Lecce, placed 18th in the Serie A standings, narrowed the gap to Genoa to just one point with a 2-1 success over Udinese. Genoa was demolished 0-5 by Sassuolo. In Wednesday’s other matches, Fiorentina swept aside Bologna 4-0 and Verona crushed SPAL 3-0.
