In another clash, big-serving Milos Raonic enjoyed a straight-sets success over Andy Murray. Djokovic broke Sandgren three times to reach the quarter-finals and extend his win-loss record to 20-0 this year. Next up for Djokovic is German Jan-Lennard Struff, who outlasted David Goffin 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Murray had an impressive win over fifth seed Alexander Zverev on Monday, but never found his rhythm against Raonic.

The Canadian dominated on serve, firing 10 aces and winning almost 90% of his first-serve points to advance to the quarterfinals by a scoreline of 6-2, 6-2. Defending champion Daniil Medvedev, from Russia, looked sharp in his 6-3, 6-3 dismantling of qualifier Aljaz Bedene.

The Russian did not face a break point and committed just nine unforced errors in the 68-minute contest in hot and humid conditions. Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated John Isner 7-6(2), 7-6(4) while Reilly Opelka beat sixth seed Matteo Berrettini 6-3, 7-6(4). Roberto Bautista Agut and Filip Krajinovic also advanced to the last eight.

    Sakkari stuns Serena

Maria Sakkari delivered a brilliant performance as she came from the brink of defeat to shock Serena Williams and roar into the quarter-finals of the Western & Southern Open.

No.13 seed Sakkari, who started the week with a decisive victory over American teenager Coco Gauff, trailed by a set and a break in her first meeting with the 23time Grand Slam champion. However, the Greek rolled through the final set and won the match 5-7, 7-6(5), 6-1 after two hours and 17 minutes on Tuesday.

“I haven’t realised it yet,” Sakkari said after the contest as per the WTA website. “It feels pretty good because Serena has been a role model for me growing up. What she has achieved is huge, so it feels very nice.”
