The second match of the IPL 2020 between Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Capitals saw the lowest Super Over score in the history of Super Overs with KXIP defending 3 runs on Sunday.

Super Over is a one-over tie breaker which was introduced instead of the knockout method used earlier to conclude a match that ends in a tie.

In twenty20, the Super Over was first used in the year 2008 in the Twenty20 match between the West Indies and New Zealand. It was implemented in the One Day International cricket in 2011 World Cup although it was not used.

The rules of the Super Over:

A team chooses three batsmen and a bowler.

The team that batted first in the match would bowl first in the Super Over and vice versa.

The Super Over ends for a team if they lose two wickets.

The team that scores most runs wins the match.

The Super Over continues until a team wins.

The 2019 World Cup finals between New Zealand and England was concluded with a Super Over. As the Super Over ended with a tie, the team with most boundaries was declared as winners, which in this case was England. This result sparked criticisms and led to ICC changing the rules. The revised rule stated that a match that ends as a tie will continue with Super Overs until a team wins.
