IPL: Capital punishment for super kings
Young Prithvi Shaw struck a fluent half-century and shared a 94-run opening stand with Shikhar Dhawan to guide Delhi Capitals (DC) to 175 for three against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match here on Friday.

His effort was complemented by a disciplined bowling performance as Delhi recorded a well-deserved 44-run win. This is Chennai’s second consecutive defeat in this edition’s IPL.
Shaw (64 off 43 balls, 9 fours, 1 six) batted well in the company of Dhawan (35 off 27 balls, 3 fours, 1 six) to provide a superb start to DC’s innings. The duo started slowly, scoring just 36 runs of the first six overs, before opening up to stitch 94 runs in 10.4 overs.
Piyush Chawla broke the dangerous-looking partnership by removing both Dhawan and Shaw in consecutive overs. Rishabh Pant (37 not out, 25 balls) and captain Shreyas Iyer (26, 22 balls) pushed the scoreboard along before the latter was caught by a diving MS Dhoni off Sam Curran.
In reply to Delhi’s total, Super Kings was once again bogged down by its opening woes, with Shane Watson and Murali Vijay falling cheaply. Vijay, in particular, will be under pressure to retain his spot after getting out for 10 (15b, 1x4) off Anrich Nortje.
Left-arm spinner Axar Patel was his usual tidy-self, conceding only 18 runs from four overs besides getting rid of Watson for 14. At the completion of the powerplay, CSK had only 34 on the board. Ruturaj Gaikwad had a second successive failure after getting run-out for just five.
At this point, Faf du Plessis and Kedar Jadhav joined hands and had a major rebuilding job to do. The duo added 54 runs for the fourth wicket, but showed no urgency in hitting the all-important maximums.
Nortje came back in the 16th over to dismiss Jadhav for 26 (21b, 3x4). Soon, Kagiso Rabada returned to remove du Plessis, who was caught behind for 43 (35b, 4x4). By then, Super Kings were left with an almost improbable task of needing 65 from 18 balls. CSK skipper Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja biffed a few hits towards the end but by then it was too little too late.
