Sindhu, Srikanth move into Korea Open semis
PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth moved into the Korea Open Super 500 semi-finals with contrasting wins here on Friday.
SUNCHEON: However, the Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty pair and the Ashwini Ponnappa-N Sikki Reddy combination bowed out in the quarter-final stage in men’s and women’s doubles respectively. In the women’s singles last-eight phase, third seed Sindhu notched up her 17th win over Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan with a 21-10, 21-16 triumph.
Meanwhile, the fifth-seeded Srikanth rode on his power and precision to outwit local hope Son Wan Ho 21-12, 18-21, 21-12 in a men’s singles quarter-final fixture. In the men’s doubles event, Satwiksairaj and Chirag failed to make it to the last-four stage after going down 20-22, 21-18, 20-22 to the Korean combine of Kang Minhyuk and Seo Seungjae. Ashwini and Sikki lost 19-21, 17-21 to the Korean duo of Hye Won Eom and Bo Ryeong Kim in their quarter-final clash.
