Victoria to host 2026 Commonwealth Games

Melbourne: In a break from the traditional single host city model, Australian state Victoria will hold the 2026 Commonwealth Games (CWG), with regional centres organising majority of the events.
The Games is scheduled for March 2026 across multiple cities and regional hubs, including Melbourne, Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat and Gippsland. Each centre will have an athlete village.
The opening ceremony will take place at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) announced on Tuesday. The announcement followed an exclusive dialogue period between the CGF, Commonwealth Games Australia (CGAus) and Victoria.
An initial list of 16 sports, including T20 cricket, has been put forward for CWG 2026, with more to be added later this year.
