    Saminathan succeeds Stalin as youth wing secretary

    Two days after he was unanimously elected as the working president of the DMK, treasurer M K Stalin quit the post of youth wing secretary. He held the post for more than three decades. Former Tamil Nadu Minister Vellakoil Saminathan was appointed to the post following Stalin’s resignation.

    In a statement here, DMK General Secretary K Anbazhagan said Suba Chandrasekar was appointed as the Joint Secretary. Stalin became the party’s Youth Wing Secretary in 1984 and since then he was holding the post. At the genera council meeting of the DMK on January 4, Stalin was elevated in the party hierarchy as its working president as his father and DMK president M Karunanidhi was unwell.

    Accepting the post as a responsibility, Stalin spoke at length about his rise in the party’s ranks. Though he was happy in accepting various posts in the party earlier, this time, when he was made the working president, he said he was accepting the post with a heavy heart in the absence of his father. who was not keeping well and did not attend the general council meeting. However, Stalin has retained the DMK party treasurer post.
