After rash driving video goes viral, two private bus drivers arrested

According to the police and transport officials, one of those two buses, SVT, started from the Ukkadam Bus Stand in Coimbatore to Pollachi at 10 30 am on Saturday, while the other, ABS, started in the same direction at 10 35 am. The public found the buses annoyingly rash near Kovilpalayam, where the anonymous motorists started shooting a video on their mobile phone. 

The 122-second video shot by two bike riders shows the two buses overtaking each other on all possible sides of the road, posing a grave threat to passengers and pedestrians, alike. 

The offenders have been identified as K Vairamuthu (42) of Palani and N Nagaraj (40) of Vellalapalayam in Pollachi. 

Acting on a complaint from K Manikandan, an electrician from Pollachi, Police booked them under Sections 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others) and 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 183 and 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act. 

The duo were arrested, their licence temporarily suspended and the two were lodged in jail. The police also detained the two buses. 

Pollachi Sub Collector Gayathri Krishnan who was instrumental in pressing for strict action over this incident, also called for a meeting with private bus operators and drivers and the transport department officials at her office on May 2.
