Over 20 from Tamil Nadu likely to be promoted as IPS officers
Finally, good news for superintendents of police in the state, waiting for the Tamil Nadu government to recommended their names for the vacancies in the Indian Police Service for the last three years.
Chennai
Names of more than 20 officers had been sent to UPSC for considering them to induct them into the Indian Police Service, said a senior officer from the state police headquarters on Tuesday. “They will be inducted into the IPS panel as per seniority and their annual confidential report,” the officer told DT Next.
Since the year 2013, despite the vacancies in the panel for Tamil Nadu officers, nobody from the state was inducted into the Indian Police Service, noted an SP and added that as many as 52 officers are in queue to get into the IPS panel.
“Of course, not all the 52 officers can be included in the list. Till 2016-end, there were 14 vacancies. We added this year’s vacancy and despatched the list of officers to Delhi for clearance. So, all the eligible superintendents of police from the state service will get their IPS tag soon,” the officer added. A superintendent of police, who joined TN police force as deputy superintendent of police in the year 2001, and waiting for the induction into the IPS for the last three years, said that it was certainly good to know that the files have moved from Chennai to Delhi. “The government should despatch the files before this month-end to UPSC to fill the existing vacancies” he added.
The officers were worried because the delay will also reflect in their future promotions. Usually a DSP will be promoted as SP after 8 to 9 years of service in the department. After becoming SP, he or she will be inducted into the Indian Police Service in another couple of years. We have been waiting for the last 3 years, but nothing was moving since 2013, the year 2001 batch DSP, now an SP, said.
For example, a good number of superintendents of police, who joined as DSP in the year 1997, got inducted to Indian Police Service in the year 2009. “They got inducted into IPS in 12 years’ time. But we, even after completing 16 years, are still waiting to get into the IPS panel,” another SP from the 2001 batch lamented.
