Erwadi Dargah hundi sealed by Waqf Board

The dargah, which houses the tomb of Islamic saint of Qutbus Sultan Syed Ibrahim Badusha, is managed by the descendants of Qutbus Sultan. 

Following a recent dispute between them over its management, they approached the court, which then appointed a special officer to run the dargah as it had been receiving huge quantity of sandalwood from the state government for its annual Sandanakoodu festival. 

Meanwhile, the Waqf Board obtained an order from a local court, which entitled it for seven per cent of the collection from the dargah’s hundi. 

On Tuesday, a 24-member team of Waqf Board went to the dargah to seal the hundi. But the dargah management did not allow them to do so. The team informed that the money in the hundi should be counted only in their presence which was rejected by the dargah management. 

Though Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) Suman tried to convince them, the management members stood their ground. However, later in the evening, a posse of policemen, led by DSP Ravichandran, entered the dargah and asked those present inside to vacate the premises. 

They then sealed the hundi with locks provided by the Waqf Board. They informed the dargah management that the money in the hundi should be counted only in the presence of Waqf Board members. However, a member of the management said that the dargah was not a property of the Waqf Board and they would face the issue legally.
