The video package is designed to enable any learner, irrespective of nationality, to learn to pronounce Tamil letters appropriately within 30 days.

A senior official from SCERT told DT Next on Wednesday students will look at letters, move their body parts, pronounce the letters and listen to their own sounds through the video package and hence, learning will be reinforced through all the five senses.

“Songs blended with Tamil music, traditional art forms, and cultural factors are imbedded in this video package”, he added.

The SCERT official said that shooting of the video is happening in culturally rich spots such as Karaikudi palace, Tuticorin port, malls, and various other places in the State. “All the videos are being taken in co-operation with experts from across the State”, he said.

He said the video clippings, with a time range between five to 10 minutes, will conduct debates and cultural festivals to train the children in developing oratorical skills and pronouncing tongue twisters accurately. “In this massive effort, over 500 teachers and more than 2,000 students are involved”, he said.

As this innovation facilitates pronunciation of letters in the right syllables, this could very well become the fore runner of Tamil vision ‘Language speaking device’.

As the proposed video intends to motivate learners of Tamil across the globe, it is destined to become a ready reckoner for language learners. “The videos will be uploaded in the website so that both teachers and parents could teach the children at any point of time”, he said, adding “apart from uploading the videos, CDs will be distributed to the schools where teachers could train children in the classrooms.”
