Perumal, a retired Sub Inspector of Police from Ambedkar Nagar at Cholamadevi near Tiruverumbur in Tiruchy, along with his wife and son was working in the backyard while his daughter was alone at the house. When Perumal’s daughter ran out of the house screaming, Perumal and other family members rushed to the house and were shocked to see a rat snake moving around on the floor. Soon Perumal tried to chase the snake out of the house but in vain.

Meanwhile, on hearing the screams of Perumal’s family, their country breed dog ‘Muni’ that was in the backyard ran into the house. Muni, not sacred by the slithery visitor, instantly caught the snake and bit its head.

As the dog held of the snake’s head firmly, the snake could not fight back and within minutes, the reptile died. The fearless Muni only after ensuring that the snake is dead loosened its grip. Subsequently, Perumal cleared the snake from the house. Once the information spread across thevillage, neighbours rushed to the house and lauded the dog for its loyalty.
