More sub courts to be opened in state to clear backlog: PDJ

Inaugurating the Fourth Additional Sub Court in the Combined Court premises here, the Principal District Judge said, there are 43 sub courts in the district, including one in Manapparai and another in Srirangam and Lalgudi. The number of sub courts have been increased as per the directions of the High Court on order to expedite the pending cases. “There are as many as 45,185 cases including 16,403 criminal cases are pending in Tiruchy, while as many as 8,784 cases are pending in the sub courts. At this juncture, the apex court had ordered to expedite the cases pending for more than five years. Accordingly, the cases are taken up based on priority and in Tiruchy as many as 9,124 cases are pending for more than five years,” the Principal District Judge said.

Stating that 20 per cent of cases on an average are pending, the Principal District Judge said, the percentile had been reduced to 15 since the month of July. He appealed to the advocates to work hand in hand to expedite the pending cases. While speaking, District Collector S Sivarasu said, the number of new courts would help to expedite the cases and the district administration has decided to depute the revenue department to construct a court at Srirangam- Lalgudi main road in an area of two acres. Chief Judicial Magistrate S Kirubakaran Mathuram and City Commissioner of Police A Amalraj and others were present.
