    UN Aids and Human Rights Day observed in Kumari

    The UN Aids and Human Rights Day was observed in Kanniyakumari on Monday. Scores of students competed in the district-level quiz contest organised by Knowledge Foundation, the Kanniyakumari-based organisation, at Chinnathurai, a coastal hamlet, as part of the programme.

    The purpose of this event was to foster and put to test their knowledge, said Justin Antony, executive director of the organisation, who was the quiz master, said.


    With a view to kindling enthusiasm among the students, a series of programmes such as Knowledge Olympiad were conducted. Recently, the Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC) and this organisation jointly organised a Knowledge Olympiad entitled ‘Open Lab Project’, an international test for school students in Chennai, in connection with “the United Nations designated 2019 as the International Year of the Periodic Table (IYPT 2019) of Chemical Elements”. As many as 170 school students participated, he said.


    The Kanniyakumari District Employment Officer, Maria Sahaya Antony, who applauded the winners for their sterling performance and honoured them with cash prize, books and certificates, said that with such significant contributions, students’ development is enhanced in various forms including advancing their knowledge to maintain high standards and the efforts for initiating such useful event would help the students realise their skills..


    Students from over 50 schools from Thiruvananthapuram and Kanniyakumari districts participated in the quiz, he said.
