    Commissioner plans state tour to improve quality of school education

    The newly appointed State Commissioner of School Education, Sigy Thomas Vaidhyan, will soon be undertaking a 10-day State-wide visit and hold brainstorming sessions for the improvement of education quality in schools across Tamil Nadu, sources said.

    In a surprise development, the Tamil Nadu government had recently appointed the Commissioner of School Education, who would be stationed at the DPI complex in Chennai and monitor the directorates of school, elementary education and matriculation schools.


    The Education Commissioner will be from December 9 visiting Coimbatore, Salem, Villupuram, Tiruchy, Tirunelveli, Madurai, Thanjavur and Chennai school zones and would meet select headmasters of government schools to suggest the necessary improvement to be made in schools. All 32 educational districts will be covered in these four zones. Accordingly, all the chief educational officers and district educational officers have been instructed to select about 20 headmasters of government schools in each zone to coordinate withthe Commissioner.


    A senior official from the Directorate of School Education told DT Next that the Education Commissioner’s tour would begin on December 9 and end on December 19. “She would tour Chennai and its neighbouring districts such as Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur on December 12,” the official said. During the 10-day visit, she would also meet district chief educational officers in their respective offices to review their work, the official added. “The Commissioner would then collect all the data pertaining to the activities of the education officials and also of the school management”, the official said, adding, “during her visit, she would also meet select teachers to enquire the facilities provided to them”.


    Stating that Thomas will also review the welfare schemes for students, the official added that school inspection will also be undertaken to check the facilities for the students. “She will meet the students in person to check whether they have been benefited by the welfare schemes”,the official added.
