Cong, Muslim outfits call CAB divisive
The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill passed in Lok Sabha on Monday generated heated debate among political parties here. Tamil Nadu Congress and Muslim outfits in the state blamed the BJP and the AIADMK of playing politics on religious basis.

“The BJP, which does not have numbers in the Rajya Sabha is depending on the AIADMK and the BJD to ensure the smooth passage of the controversial Bill in the upper house. The act of AIADMK to support the anti-democratic Bill is condemnable,” TNCC president KS Alagiri said.
The BJP has failed to keep its promises on development, job opportunities and inflation. The price of onion is skyrocketing to a whopping Rs 200 per kg. But the national party is focussed on dividing Hindus and Muslims through this Bill. There is no mention about the Lankan Tamils and other ethnic refugees in the Bill exposing the BJP of its religious politics, Alagiri added.
Meanwhile, AIADMK Rajya Sabha leader Navaneedha Krishnan told reporters that the AIADMK has decided to support the Bill. “Whatever reservations we have we will express in the House. But if it comes down to voting, we will vote in favour of the Bill,” the AIADMK MP said.
Tamil Nadu Muslim League in a statement also condemned the BJP for mooting a bill which TNML felt was threatening the secular fabric of India.
