Speaking to reporters after inspecting the TNHB tenements in Singanallur, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the state government has been taking efforts to demolish the 960 houses builtby TNHB in 1984 as they have become weak.
“The residents should vacate the houses and hand them over to TNHB by another 15 days. Within one month, the tenements will be demolished and new buildingswill be constructed in their place,” he said.
Stating that DMK MLA N Karthik has been staging a drama for political reasons, Panneerselvam said that, of the total 960 houses, up to 700 families have given their letter of consent to demolish the tenements.
“Once, when remaining people give their consent, works will commence to demolish and build new houses. The MLA should understand that the government didn’t force those, who haven’t given their letter of consent, to vacate considering their plight. However, I request residents to co-operate as any untoward incident willonly cause further trouble to them,” he said.
The Deputy Chief Minister’s visit to TNHB tenements comes in the wake of DMK workers staging a massive protest demanding to demolish them and build new ones.
