Stalin vows to fight CAA to defend Eelam Tamils, Muslims’ rights
Slamming the ruling BJP and AIADMK for passing the “unconstitutional and inhumane” Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), principal opposition party DMK has vowed to fight the ‘discriminatory’ legislation and defend the rights of Eelam Tamils and Muslims.

Justifying his party’s opposition to the CAA, including the vote against the legislation in both houses of the Parliament, DMK president MK Stalin on Sunday posted a two-minute video on his official Twitter handle, asserting that they would not remain a mute spectator to the legislation which “discriminates against Muslims and betrays the interest of Eelam Tamils.”
“I have explained why DMK opposes this unconstitutional and inhumane law and why we must continue to defend against this assault on secularism,” Stalin tweeted. “DMK voted against the Bill because it is retrograde, discriminatory and divides people. But, AIADMK voted in support of the Bill and helped the BJP government enact the legislation,” Stalin said inthe video.
Referring to the nationwide protests against CAA, especially in the north eastern states, Stalin pointed to the demonstration led by his party’s youth wing against CAA here on Friday and said, “Citizenship Act is a noble act which gives life to people fleeing a country and coming to India as refugees. But the BJP led Centre has taken up the CAA only to divert attention from public outcry and disappointment against job loss and economic slowdown.” “We would not have opposed if they had offered to grant citizenship to all refugees. But ruling BJP attempts to divide people on religious lines and discriminate and ignore Muslims alone. AIADMK has stood by the BJP,” Stalin who is also the Leader of Opposition alleged.
Referring to the presence of Eelam Tamils in large numbers in Tamil Nadu, Stalin added that the DMK, which trembles whenever injustice is meted out to Tamils and Tamil Nadu, would not be a mute spectator to the injustice.
“The DMK nurtured by Anna and Kalaginar (Karunanidhi), who valued rights and honour as much as their life and led by me, will not be silent. Our strugglefor the Tamil race will continue,” he added.
