'Will not enforce Citizenship Law'

The Chief Minister of Puducherry has said he will not enforce the controversial Citizenship Law.

The new law, which allows non-Muslims to migrate to India from three neighbouring countries - Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, has met with stiff resistance across India. 

Chief Minister Narayanaswamy said the law was aimed at dividing the people and establish India as a Hindu state, according to reports. 

He said his government will resist the law even if it meant losing his post as chief minister, reports said. 

West Bengal's Mamata Banerjee has been the most fierce in opposing the law among dozens of other Indian leaders.

India's Supreme Court is expected to hear a bunch of petitions against the law on December 18.
