    Five flying squads formed in Tiruchy dist

    The district election office here has formed as many as five flying squads to continuously monitor the six unions where elections are scheduled in phase one to prevent distribution of cash or valuables to the voters by the candidates.

    The phase I elections are being conducted at Anthanallur, Manapparai, Manikandam, Marungapuri, Tiruverumbur and Vaiyyampatti unions which is scheduled on December 27 and the other unions like Lalgudi, Mannachanallur, Musiri, Pullambadi, T-Pettai, Thottiyam, Thuraiyur and Uppiliyapuram are held in the phase II on December 30.


    Meanwhile, in order to prevent distribution of cash for votes and other valuables, the district election office and district administration has established as many as five flying squads each with six members, including one tahsildhar, sub-Inspector of police and a videographer, said the District Election Officer and Collector S Sivarasu.


    The flying squad would monitor their jurisdiction round the clock on eight-hour shift basis. They would also involve in vehicle inspections and keep on moving to curb violations. Their entire inspection process would be video recorded and submitted to the District Collector who would forward it to the Election Commission based on the requirement.
