DMK president MK Stalin on Tuesday said the local body elections was a precursor to unseat the incumbent AIADMK regime which has put the state on top on issues averse to public welfare.

In a two-minute video, in which he mustered support for his party candidates in the local body elections, Stalin, said, “Tamil Nadu is number one in corruption, dengue and tuberculosis, whichever is against the (interest) of people. This is the achievement of the Edappadi regime.”“The cabinet of Tamil Nadu is a criminal cabinet. Is this not a disgrace to India? The ensuing local body elections in a precursor to save the nation from them,” added the DMK president, accusing the AIADMK regime of delaying civic polls to continue its corruption.

“The civic poll, which should have been held long ago, is happening now. The AIADMK regime has been making excuses and delaying the election for three years because they were wary of meeting the people and feared that DMK would win if elections were conducted,” added Stalin who is also the Leader of Opposition.

“People would have aired their grievances to elected representatives and got it resolved. But, complaints galore now. Hence, I and other DMK functionaries toured the state and lent ears to people’s grievances,” said Stalin.

“People complained mostly about drinking water, sanitation, streetlights, roads, old age pension, revolving fund distribution for self-help groups and 100 days works under MGNREGA. If the civic polls were held on time, at least 60 per cent of the grievances would have been resolved. But, there are only two major reasons for them not holding elections. DMK might have won if elections were conducted. If civic representations were in place, it could have affected their corruption,” added the DMK president.
