The counting for Rural Local Bodies elections threw a pleasant surprise for a Vandavasi farmer on Friday as both of his wives won the village panchayat president posts they contested in. According to sources, Dhanasekaran of Vazhuvur Pudur village in Vandavasi panchayat union had two wives, Selvi and Kanchana. Selvi, who was earlier president of the Vazhuvur Pudur panchayat, contested for the same post again and won it this time too. Dhanasekaran’s second wife Kanchana hailed from Kovilkuppam Sathanur in the same panchayat union and though married, her vote continued to be with the particular village panchayat. She thus contested for the president’s post in Kovilkuppam Sathanur panchayat, and secured the position when results were declared late on Thursday. Similarly, the polls also saw two couples from the Dravidian majors winning panchayat union ward members posts in the Cheyyar panchayat union. Couple Jothi and Thilagavathi contesting from the DMK and husband-wife duo Mahendran and Vimala from the AIADMK won panchayat union ward member posts in Cheyyar.
