Leader of Opposition and DMK president MK Stalin stated that the Governor’s address as a press release that focussed on the order of events which had happened over the past year.

The Governor’s address mentioned about Chinese president Xi Jinping’s visit to Mahabalipuram, Athivaradhar festival, one nation one ration shop issue and the marriage assistant schemes, but the crucial address lacked clarity on issues like CAA, NRC and Mekedatu.

Stalin also quoted a recent venture capital investment report on Tamil Nadu stating that TN failed to attract major investments despite conducting global investors meet.

Recalling the anti-Sterlite protest firing, Stalin complained that the state was facing law and order problems.

He also said that according to the Governor’s report, the daily passenger traffic through the state transport corporation was around 1.61 crore, but this number had dwindled by more than 11 lakh passengers per day.

As per the previous Governor’s address, the daily passenger number was around 1.74 crore, Stalin noted. The state is also witnessing public protests and protests by labours working in various firms are also on the rise, the DMK leader noted.

Responding to Stalin, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said that state was firm in opposing the construction of a new dam in Mekedatu. The state had filed petitions in the Supreme Court. The Mekedattu proposal started during the Congress regime in Karnataka when the DMK was in UPA alliance.

However, the ruling and the opposition are on the same page over Mekedatu. TN will continue its legal fight over the proposed dam, he added.

Commenting on Sterlite, the CM said it was the DMK which gave the expansion permission for controversial Sterlite unit that lead to a series of protests followed by the untoward incident.

The CM also noted that the Centre had conferred the best governance award to Tamil Nadu which has been maintaining a better law and order situation in the whole country, he added.
