Living together for 73 years, Salem couple joins in death too
A couple, who was living together for 73 years, left for the heavenly abode together in Salem on Tuesday and the villagers beelined to pay tributes to the oldest couple in their locality.

Pachamuthu (96), a retired mill employee and a resident of RS Bharathi Nagar in Mettur, Salem district, was living with his wife Kullammal (90). The couple got married in 1947 when Pachamuthu was 23-years-old andKullammal 17.
The couple led a peaceful and happy life for over 73 years and they were the most respected couple in the locality as they never skipped any social functions in the village and the people never failed to get blessings from this elderly couple. In such a backdrop, Kullammal was ill due to age factor and was admitted in a hospital for a few days.
Despite treatment, she succumbed on Tuesday. On hearing the demise of Kullammal, Pachamuthu was shocked and was sitting alone without speaking to anyone. Despite the family members consoling Pachamuthu, he fell down unconscious after a while.
Soon, he was rushed to hospital where the doctors declared him dead. Subsequently, their children arranged their funeral and many people participated in it. The couple is survived by seven children, including four daughters.
