    Kovai Race Course police station wins top laurels in state

    The Race Course police station in Coimbatore has brought laurels by bagging the award for being the best police station in the state.

    The station has earned the top honours for its modern facilities. It has a library, gym, crèche, lactation room besides ramps for differently abled people, reception room, waiting hall, toilets, conference hall and investigation rooms.


    The station also comes under the surveillance of CCTV cameras. The Race Course station has secured 4,212 points to rank the best, while Dindugul Town North police station has come second with 4,034 points and the Dharmapuri police station has bagged the third place with 2,512.5 points.


    Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami gave away the award for the best stations and it was received by Race Course police station inspector Sakthivel during Republic Day celebrations in Chennai.


    The 150-year-old station, set up in 1913 was demolished and new building was constructed in 2015. In 2018, the state government has set up the award to honour three best performing police stations. The station houses law and order, crime and traffic wings.


    In 2018, the RS Puram (B-2) police station was ranked the best in the country under the category of SMART police stations as an initiative by the Ministry of Home Affairs.


    Similarly, the Dharmapuri Town Police station has been recognised with an award for its neatness, speedy investigation and quick remedy and library besides other factors.”


    Our station has women in civil dress as reception officers. Also there is a library. In another few months, the station will also be equipped other facilities like feeding room,” said a cop attached to the station. Dindigul North Town inspector of police P Ulaganathan attributed the success to team work.
