Chennai
The Madras HC on Monday demanded answers from TN political parties regarding illegal banners. The court also stated that no parties other than DMK and AIADMK have filed declaration regarding illegal banners. Following the death of Chennai techie Subashree on September 12, 2019, numerous cases were filed in Madras HC seeking a ban on political banners.Â
The Madras HC also questioned about the status of cases filed against illegal banners, before Subashree's death.
Subashree died after an illegal banner put up by Jayagopal for his son's wedding fell on her while she was riding her scooter on the Thoraipakkam - Pallavaram road in Pallikaranai. A case was filed against Jayagopal under Section 3 of the Tamil Nadu Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 1959 and Section 326 of the Indian Penal Code (causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means).
