Collector suspends ‘irregular’ govt school teacher
In an unexpected move, the Vellore Collector A Shanmuga Sundaram suspended a teacher, at the Government Higher Secondary School at Serkadu in Katpadi panchayat union, during a surprise inspection. The sudden decision however was welcomed by parents and public.
Vellore
The suspended teacher Vasanth was not present in the school when the Collector arrived. Moreover, when the Collector enquired the students on their poor performance in examinations, they stated that their teacher was continuously on leave, which prompted the Collector to make this decision.
However, SN Janardhanan JACT-GEO State EC member said, “The visit was subsequent to the Collector being petitioned by the school PTA, which had some misunderstanding with Vasanth. He had produced 90% results and was not present due to health reasons. Also he was tending to his father suffering from kidney failure.” Department sources revealed that this was not an isolated case as there were some teachers in the district who in the guise of undertaking association work rarely come for teaching. A case in point is a primary school teacher at VGR Nagar in Gandhinagar abutting Katpadi, who rarely comes to classes and has even appointed a person in his behalf. When the issue was raised with the Vellore CEO S Mars, the latter assured action but sources revealed that the teacher’s identity was known to all department top officials.
Parents of students studying in a Government Higher Secondary school at Brahmapuram near Serkadu said action should be taken against such teachers so that plus two and SSLC results in the district would improve.
