The Vellore all-women police on Saturday arrested two persons after a 17-year-old girl, who was reportedly impregnated on the pretext of marriage, was hospitalised following her being fed with medication that led to the death of the foetus.
According to the police, the girl, a resident of Vellore was studying in a local catering college. She developed friendship with Kesavan (32) of Katpadi, an employee of a private hotel where she was posted for training. Their relationship developed into love and soon she became pregnant. When the girl insisted that Kesavan marry her, he advised her to abort the foetus.
Kesavan then sought the help of his friend Venketesan (38) here and the latter provided the girl with some tables to abort the foetus. Soon, the girl’s health suffered and she was admitted to hospital where doctors discovered that the foetus had died. When questioned, the girl revealed all that happened to her parents who immediately complained to the Vellore all-women police. The police soon arrested both Kesavan and Venketesan under the Pocso Act and a court remanded them to custody.
