Accordingly, sweepers, scavengers and security personnel would be appointed and managed by private companies. The government’s move to approach private parties came against the backdrop of several complaints from the students and parents about the existing staff, who were not discharging duties properly.
A senior official from the Collegiate Education Department told DT Next that the government intends to improve the hygiene and security of the college campus for betterment of student community. “In order to maintain the cleanliness and security of college campus, the government has proposed to employ sweepers, scavengers and watchmen through outsourcing agency for the first time,” he added.
He said that the existing housekeeping staff, appointed by the government, in the State-run colleges do not co-operate with the management while discharging their duties.
“Most of them take leave without prior permission on regular basis and some of them do not come to work for several weeks so the cleanliness and security of institutions remains a great question mark,” he said adding, “Therefore, it has been decided to enter into an agreement with the private housekeeping companies through tender document to provide proper non-teaching staff to the colleges.”
The official said that during the first phase, a total of 108 government and government aided Arts and Science colleges and its offices across the State would be getting housekeeping staff. “During the next phase, all the colleges will get it,” he added.
