    Namadhu Amma justifies Minister’s action

AIADMK party organ Namadhu Amma came to the support of Forest Minister Dindigul Sreenivasan on Friday. Even as Forest Minister Sreenivasan tendered an apology to the tribal boy and the family offered to withdraw the complaint against the Minister for demanding the 14-year-old to remove his slippers, the party organ justified the incident by citing his age as reason.

“Dindigul Sreenivasan is a senior politician who occupied various positions right from the time of the late chief minister MG Ramachandran. He is an innocent and outspoken person and due to his age, he had requested a boy in the age of his grandson to remove the slippers, but the incident was made controversial by a section of media,” said Namadhu Amma.

Dindigul Sreenivasan, who went to inaugurate a rejuvenation camp for elephants in The Nilgris, was caught in a controversy when he asked a tribal boy to remove his slippers. The video of the boy removing the Minister’s slippers went viral and the Minister was condemned by political parties and social media users who demanded apology from him and action against him.

The victim, the tribal boy, also filed a complaint against the Minister and his family demanded apology from Sreenivasan.

Under these circumstances, when it was expected that the AIADMK would at least warn the Minister for his act, the party mouthpiece has supported the Minister.

“In families, usually elders will request the kids to get their slippers and the Minister requested the tribal boy with the same intention. But, unnecessary hype was created for the incident. Media has not just insulted the Minister, but also the tribal boy who helped the Minister,” said Namadhu Amma.

The ruling party mouthpiece also recalled similar incidents that happened during DMK’s rule when once an elderly person gave slippers to DMK president MK Stalin to wear and the late chief minister M Karunanidhi who had an assistant to carry out all his personal works when he was on thewheelchair.
