TN police deport 40 Bangladeshis after discreet checks

Sources said that over 40 people from Bangladesh working in Tamil Nadu with fake documents were detected and deported to their country in the last six months.

According to a senior police officer, a number of Bangladeshi Muslims have reached Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu looking for work. Most of them carry fake documents to show that they are from Assam or West Bengal. “There is no doubt that they are arriving under different names or disguises. Several Bangladeshi illegal national / immigrants can be found in various places in the state. We are enumerating them discreetly,” the officer noted.

Though the state police have no estimate of such illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, officials observe that most pose as those coming from West Bengal. “But wherever we establish their nationality, we go ahead with criminal cases against such people,” the officer added. While intelligence circle is abuzz with the possibility of two illegal migrants from Bangladesh reaching Chennai disguised as Buddhist monks, police noted that most migrants from that country had reached the state with fake identity cards and documents.

Last month, after a false alarm was alarm was raised on social media when a police team had detained two nationals from Bangladesh staying in a lodge in Thousand Lights. Only after detailed inquiry by the Q branch was it found that they were not illegal migrants, but medical tourists who had come for treatment in acity hospital.
