Six CEmONC centres to get more staff
After numerous complaints on the shortage of doctors at Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (CEmONC) centers in many government medical college and hospitals, the State Health Department is appointing additional staff at CEmONC centers in six GHs under National Health Mission.

The CEmONC centers will get additional number of staff at Chengalpettu Medical College Hospital, Vellore Medical College Hospital, Tiruvannamalai Medical College and Hospital, Tiruvarur Medical College Hospital, Theni Medical College Hospital and Villupuram Medical College Hospital A total of 161 new staff members will be posted at the six centers, including 23 obstetricians and gynecologists, four paediatricians, 100 staff nurses, 4 anesthetists and 30 multipurpose staff workers. The officials from the National Health Mission said that the civil works for these centers have already started for few infrastructural developments such as additional beds, operation theatre and other facilities. “The additional staff and infrastructure will help to strengthen the reproductive child health care and provide quality care,” said the official.
CEmONC centers were started in 2004 with the aim of reducing infant mortality rate and maternal mortality by providing emergency care for pregnant women round-the-clock.
