Stating that the judgment of the Madras High Court in the free rice issue is one which ‘’suppresses’’ the rights of the Union Territory, AIADMK legislature party leader A Anbazhagan on Saturday demanded that Chief Minister V Narayanasamy resign on his own, taking moral responsibility for the same.
Talking to newspersons here, Anbazhagan said though the judgment suppresses the rights of the UT, it is one as per law.
The Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues, through confrontation with the Central government and Lt Governor Kiran Bedi, created such a situation and hence should shoulder the responsibility for such a judgment. Not only in the free rice issue, in every issue, the same judgment should be expected from the court as Puducherry will have to abide by the decisions taken by the President and the Home Ministry, Anbazhagan said.
The AIADMK leader said Puducherry needs Statehood status, adding that as long as it is a Union Territory, it could function only as a part of the Union Home Ministry.
Now, whether it is a victory for the Lt Governor and defeat for the chief minister is not the question, Anbazhagan said, adding that if the rulers do not want the Legislative Assembly to remain powerless, the entire Cabinet should resign which will draw the attention of the Union Government.
