A circular has been issued to all field offices on Monday to ensure that the LT applications of all categories except hut and agriculture should be applied online from March 1.

“In this process, the consumer has to upload the application and documents as per the provisions in the Tamil Nadu Electricity Distribution and Supply Code and hard copies shall not be entertained from the applicant, except indemnity bond, undertaking, no-objection certificate, agreement at the time of effecting service connection,” the circular issued by the chief engineer of commercial wing said. It directed officials to convince and guide applicants who seek to apply offline for personal reasons.

“Wide publicity on the compulsory online system may be done by displaying banners/boards at all offices, including section offices and collection centres to reach out to the public,” it said, warning that if any new LT application is found to have been received offline at a later date, then the officer concerned would be held “responsible.” Tangedco introduced the online application filing system for the LT service connections on August 5, 2016. From July 1, last year, the online application was made mandatory for the LT industrial service connection.
