Vellore AIADMK meet marred by war of words
A war of words erupted between former Vellore district secretary of the AIADMK and former Minister VS Vijay and Vellore west district secretary and Commercial Taxes Minister KC Veeramani on Monday.
Vellore
It took the party functionaries, who attended the meeting to choose candidates for various wards in the ensuing local body elections to Vellore city Corporation by surprise.
Veeramani had called for the meeting of party functionaries. He had already finished the same exercise in Katpadi where he made a thorough study of the party’s chances and that of its candidates as 15 of Vellore Corporation’s 60 wards fall under Vellore east district which has Arakkonam MLA S Ravi as its secretary.
When the meeting was about to start, Vijay suddenly demanded that the Minister talk about elections after first filling up the long pending vacancies to the urban and rural district secretaries’ posts.
Veeramani, according to sources, patiently told Vijay that the issue was to be decided by the party high command and that he had told them that they could nominate anybody for that post.
However, Vijay was relentless and continued to create a scene. Then district treasurer M Moorthy intervened and told Vijay that the issue could be settled after first completing the meeting agenda which was to ready the party for the local body elections.
Vijay immediately turned his ire on Moorthy and started addressing him in the singular, demanding to know who he was to talk to him (Vijay).
When others present spoke up in support of Moorthy, Vijay left the room in a huff and went outside, to return to attend the meeting after
some time.
Sources revealed that Vijay might have been perturbed by a party resolution which said only those who had 5 years of unbroken service would have a chance to participate in party elections/posts.
“Vijay moved to the AMMK and was even given a state level post there before he decided to move back to the parent AIADMK. This means he will not be eligible for any party post now,” said a senior functionary.
