The meeting has happened days after the actor had consulted the district secretaries of his Rajini Makkal Mandram (RMM) about their political plans. Speaking to reporters after the rendezvous with the actor at the latter’s Poes Garden residence in the city, Thirunavukkarasar downplayed the meeting saying, “I had met Rajinikanth along with my family to get his blessings on my grandson’s birthday.” Asked if they had discussed politics, the Tiruchy MP said, “How could we not discuss politics? We discussed the political situation in Tamil Nadu. He did not seek any suggestion from me. I did not advise him either. I did not discuss anything worth sharing with you. If there were any, I would have told you.”

The reticent former TNCC president is said to be among the leaders who would play a key role when Rajinikanth begins his innings in electoral politics.

Though the Congress MP downplayed the meeting as personal visit, the timing of the meeting had kept tongues wagging in political circles with many speculating that the actor could have consulted the senior politician on his plans for 2021.
