Avoid travel outside TN for 15 days: CM
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday urged the public not to travel to other states following the spread of COVID-19.

“People should avoid traveling to other states and should avoid crowds for 15 days. The elderly people, diseased, children and people with low immunity should avoid traveling to public places,” Palaniswami said in a statement.
He also announced holidays for students from pre-KG to class 5 across the State till March 31. In districts bordering neighbouring states such as Theni, Kanniyakumari, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, The Nilgris, Krishnagiri, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Tiruvallur, Vellore, Thirupattur, Ranipet, Erode, Dindigul, Dharmapuri and Virudhunagar, theatres, shopping malls would be closed till March 31.
The government has been going flip-flop regarding announcement of holidays for primary school students. On Friday, the State announced holidays for all pre-KG, LKG and UKG students across TN and pre-KG to Class 5 in districts bordering Kerala. That announcement was withdrawn on Saturday.
The government allotted Rs 60 crore emergency fund, from the Disaster Management fund to undertake steps to prevent the spread of the virus.
Palaniswami also urged parents to constantly monitor their children playing in groups during summer holidays. “All four airports- Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai and Tiruchy are being monitored round the clock and according to Centre’s guidelines, Indians returning from abroad are under 14-day quarantine. Quarantine facilities would be setup near all the four airports as well,” the CM said.
He added that officials at all check posts in border districts have been instructed to take measures on a war footing over coronavirus.
