    Bedi urges Piyush Goyal for better rail connectivity in Puducherry

    Close on the heels of Lok Sabha member from Puducherry V Vaithilingam urging Union Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal to expedite Railway projects in Puducherry in his Lok Sabha speech, Lt Governor Kiran Bedi on Sunday urged the minister to help the Union Territory.

    In a WhatsApp post, the Lt Governor said that this tourist destination needs better rail connectivity. Every day, the region is losing precious lives in road accidents besides suffering traffic congestion daily.


    Transport sector must aggressively follow up progress and chase proposals withthe Railway Board, she added.


    Meanwhile, Bedi also said that from next Saturday onwards, Team Raj Nivas will visit one major ongoing PWD project to improve up on internal coordination, to sustain the ongoing progress and to help people get quality services in good time.


    She said to ensure that any project can be expected to be visited, the name of the project visiting shall be disclosed only two days prior to the visit. She said the project manager must be updated and the contractor should make available a detailed presentation.


    ‘’I have discussed this with the PWD secretary and this is on his initiative,’’ she said, adding that she is grateful for his zeal to improve road conditions, road safety and more.


    The selected site will be announced on Thursday evening and the PWD secretary will inform all stake holders to be present on site at the given time and share, brief and update with time lines, the LG said.


    A standing invite is being extended to the PWD minister to join the team as his participation shall help in bringing in alignment in all contributing agencies and help to expedite work and also on ground review of reality, she added.


    The objective of these rounds is to improve and sustain all round progress and work together without delays, she said.
