Corona upsurge: Joint ops in Pondy, Cuddalore to create awareness
Officials of Puducherry and Cuddalore District in Tamil Nadu led by respective Collectors T Arun and Anbuselvan on Monday conducted a joint operation at the border area of Puducherry and Cuddalore to create awareness among the public about COVID-19 and to prevent the spreading of disease.

The employees distributed pamphlets to passengers travelling in buses and other private transport and sanitized vehicles passing the border.
Later, talking to news persons, Cuddalore Collector Anbuselvan said all modes of transport operators were advised to clean and sanitize their vehicles and not to allow overload.
There is no cases of Coronavirus in Cuddalore district, he said, adding that as per the advise of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Health Minister all precautionary measures are being taken to prevent the disease in the district.
Students studying in schools from LKG to Vth standard were given leave and the owners of Cinema halls and Marriage halls were advised to clean and sanitize their premises, he said.
Review meeting
Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao on Monday said that the government would take a decision to declare holidays for the Medical Colleges, Engineering colleges and Pondicherry university in the wake of the Coronavirus threat.
Talking to news persons after presiding over the preparedness review meeting at the Health Department here, Mr Rao said there are 60,000 students in Medical, Engineering Colleges and Pondicherry university from here and other states.
The government would also take a decision to declare holidays to students of class 6 to 9. Already the administration had declared holiday for students from pre-KG to fifth standard until further orders.
The Minister said that the government would decide to close down the Cinema theaters here. He said the closure of schools and commercial establishments was to create awareness among the people here and added that the government is prepared to spend Rs.7.5 crore to tackle COVID-19.
About 400 bed facilities have been arranged to treat the affected besides isolation wards with 150 beds, Mr Rao added.
Strict screening of the tourists arriving here was arranged in hotels, bus stands and border points, the Minister said.
