Six Rajya Sabha nominees elected unopposed
State Assembly Secretary K Srinivasan on Wednesday declared that three nominees each from DMK and AIADMK were elected unopposed for the six Rajya Sabha seats from the state.

Three nominees from DMK NR Elango, Anthiyur P Selvaraj and Tiruchy N Siva were announced elected and certificates of victory were handed over to the candidates in the presence of DMK president MK Stalin. The DMK chief congratulated the winners and adorned them with golden shawls.
Similarly, the three nominees from AIADMK M Thambidurai, KP Munusamy and GK Vasan, from Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) were issued certificate of victory in the presence of Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam. Both the AIADMK convenors appreciated the AIADMK candidates and presented them shawls.
As far as the DMK is concerned, Elango and Selvaraj will be first timers in Rajya Sabha and in the AIADMK camp KP Munusamy will the first timer. The six members of Rajya Sabha were elected to fill the vacancies created by six members who will retire on April 2, this year.
Election Commission (EC) notified the polls for Rajya Sabha on February 25 and the last date of nominations was March 13. Wednesday was the last date for withdrawing nominations and election was announced on March 26.
Apart from the six candidates, two other candidates filed nominations, but as they did not enjoy the support of MLAs, their nominations were rejected and on the last day of withdrawal the six remaining candidates were announced victorious as there were no other candidates in the fray.
