Defamation case against PMK chief stayed
The Madras High Court on Friday stayed the trial court proceedings in a defamation case against Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader S Ramadoss.
Chennai
The defamation case was filed by DMK organising secretary RS Bharathi on behalf of Murasoli Trust after Ramadoss on a social media statement said that DMK’s mouthpiece Murasoli was situated on panchami land and asked the Opposition Leader MK Stalin to release the land documents.
The petition was filed before the Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Egmore. Accepting the submission, XIV Metropolitan Magistrate Yaswanthrao Ingersol has directed Ramadoss to appear before the court.
Seeking exemption from appearing before the trial court and to squash the proceedings, Ramadoss has moved the petition before the High Court.
When the case came up for hearing before the single bench Justice Ilanthirayan, the court stayed the proceedings against Ramadoss and adjourned the case. The court noted that the matter would be taken up after four weeks.
