COVID-19 cases top 700 in Tamil Nadu

The total number of Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals in Tamil Nadu went up to 21 on Wednesday while the death toll increased by one to eight persons, Health Secretary Beela Rajesh said.
Speaking to reporters here, Rajesh said till date, 21 persons have been cured of Covid-19 and discharged from the hospitals, including a 72-year old person. She said the patients are in a stable condition.
The state has 19 test labs for coronavirus out of which 12 are government owned and seven are run by the private sector.
A total of 6,095 blood samples have been tested till date, Rajesh said.
Queried about the varying duty hours for doctors and nurses in different cities, she said it depends on the number of patients admitted to the different hospitals.
She also said the state has sufficient number of testing kits to detect the coronavirus infection.
Rajesh said the government's objective was to ensure that the spread of the virus does not enter the third stage and the health department personnel were working in that direction.
Maharashtra remained the worst hit state with a total number of positive cases rising to 1018, followed by Tamil Nadu which has 738 cases, according to the Health Ministry data.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday told all the floor leaders of various parties in the Parliament that the kind of response and suggestions he has received does not indicate that the lockdown should be lifted, said sources.Â
The Prime Minister is slated to meet the Chief Ministers of all the states and Union Territories on April 11, through video conference, where a final decision on the issue is slated to be made. This will be the third such conference with the CMs.
