Patient Tested Positive After Release
Minister who met patient at risk of infection, attended State cabinet meeting 2 days later
Tiruvannamalai
A woman who was released from quarantine, tested positive four days after she was sent home. The patient was part of a group who was quarantined in the Islamiah college and in a private marriage hall in Vaniyambadi on April 3.
On April 9, Labour Minister and Vaniyambadi MLA Nilofer Kafeel released 30 members of the group from both venues and sent them off with roses. Two days later, on April 11, Nilofer Kafeel was seen attending the Chief Minister’s Cabinet meeting.
It is now reported that one of the group members, a 48-year-old woman, has tested positive for the coronavirus in Tirupattur district. On Saturday, local medical officials took a blood sample and sent it for testing. The result came on Monday, which showed that she was positive. The woman was immediately rushed to the isolation ward in the Vellore government medical college hospital while her husband and two children continue to be in quarantine in the Vaniyambadi government hospital.
Medical officials are now very concerned that Minister Nilofer Kafeel is not aware that she is possibly at risk of exposure to the infection, and they recommend that she also be tested and possibly quarantined.
