A total of 230 persons, including media personnel, police and officials in Vaniyambadi had their samples taken with the newly arrived rapid test kits at the Urban Primary Health Centre in Vaniyambadi’s new town area on Tuesday. All the results of the samples collected with the exception of the female inspector returned negative.

When the news reached the police station, the 43 police personnel attached to the facility were dumb struck not knowing what to do. SP P Vijayakumar, who reached the spot, ordered the station personnel to immediately shift to a nearby private marriage hall while the station was locked. The segregated personnel were again tested for the virus, while SP Vijayakumar gave them a pep talk to hold up force morale.

The COVID-19 infected female inspector and the servant in her house, who lives nearby at Chettyappanur village, were immediately rushed to the Vellore Government Medical College Hospital. The inspector’s husband, who is the present Chidambram DSP, who visited her recently, has also been quarantined. The entire Chettyappanur village from which the maid hailed was immediately sanitised with disinfectant by the civic officials.
