HC dismisses petition seeking postponement of Class 10, 12 boards

The PIL moved by advocate S Stalin Raja had pointed out that the State was witnessing a rapid increase in COVID-19 cases, and sought for a direction to the authorities to postpone the exams till the State reported zero cases.

Conducting the exams in such a situation would put the children at risk of getting infected, the petitioner argued.

However, when the plea came up before a division bench comprising Justice M Sathyanarayanan and Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana, special government pleader C Munusami submitted for the School Education department that the PIL was not in adherence to the guidelines issued by both the Supreme Court and High Court. It was also pointed out that the petitioner was not a party affected by board exams.

Conceding this, the bench proceeded to impose a cost, following which the petitioner agreed to withdraw the plea as dismissed.
