According to officials, the store failed to ensure social distancing and employed more workforce than the allotted numbers.
Acting on a complaint, Thanjavur Corporation Commissioner Janaki Raveendran, along with the Tahsildhar Venkateswaran and RDO Velumani, conducted an inspection of the supermarket on Saturday around 11 am and found that the establishment has been functioning without adhering to norms.
Officials during inspection found that the supermarket, which has been functioning from Oriental Towers on Srinivasan Pillai Road near Thanjavur railway junction, was running air conditioners, besides employing more than 30 staff members, which is against the lockdown norms. The supermarket had also not maintained social distancing and was selling commodities through rear doors even after the permitted time.
When officials reached the supermarket complex in the morning, they found that the business was being carried as usual with the regular staff attending to the customers. Hence, the officials sealed the premises after asking the staff and customers to leave the supermarket.
The Commissioner warned against such activities and said that the revenue officials would intensify the inspection and severe action would be initiated against the norms violating shops.
