Vellore to send 25 frontline workers to support city’s fight
Vellore Corporation officials have prepared a list of conservancy staff who will be sent to Chennai as the number of COVID-19 cases involving frontline workers in the city has surged recently.
Vellore
As many as 25 conservancy workers were ready to arrive in Chennai on Monday, but the move was cancelled in the last minute, officials said. However, officials added that 25 conservancy workers are ready to be deployed for duty in the city and the concerned workers have also been informed to move at short notice as ordered.
Initially, Vellore Corporation officials, including Collector A Shanmuga Sundaram, said that they did not receive any such request and added that the 1000 conservancy staff and 200 support workers would be enough to handle COVID related duties throughout the day.
However, they pointed out that ‘in an emergency local staff will have to be spared.’Similarly, no such requests were made to either Tiruvannamalai or Tirupattur district heads.
“We have not received any request from Chennai,” said Tirupattur Collector MP Sivan Arul. ”Even if asked it is doubtful to spare anybody as currently, 7 personnel working in Tiruvannamalai government medical college and hospital have tested positive for the virus,” said Tiruvannamalai Collector KS Kandasamy.
